Johnson City, TN - King Springs Road is a bluegrass band based out of East Tennessee. While staying true to the roots of bluegrass, King Springs Road pushes the limits and explores the boundaries of acoustic music. Our primary focus is creating real/authentic, original music.
It started in the basement of the house on King Springs Rd with Tyler & Josh Meade playing Christmas songs. It evolved into a six piece band as a side project, next to Tyler’s road schedule. Most of the band members actually lived in the house and the rest lived right down the road; all on King Springs Rd.
Since Tyler has parted ways with Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, he has more time to put into this band. We are planning to hit the road in 2020 and are looking forward to meeting all of you out there!
The band has always had an international component. This started with Owen Schinkel from the Netherlands, who joined the band while he was studying Bluegrass and Country Music at ETSU. Owen and Kylie moved to Ireland, leaving the international compontent to Tyler’s wife, Nienke, on bass. Nienke also hails from the Netherlands. They met in the same house the band started in. With Owen and Kylie moving to Ireland, and Max Silverstein deciding to depart, the band needed a Mandolin player and a fiddle/dobro player.
We are excited to anounce that Tim Laughlin will be joining the band on both Fiddle & Mandolin. Troy Boone and Sophia Chambers could not commit fully, but will play shows with the band.
With our yearly European tour, and half of the original band now living in Europe, we have decided to create a European King Springs Rd, with Owen & Kylie Schinkel, and Lukas Grabe. We will be back in Europe playing some shows in May & June of 2020.
Tyler comes from a musical family — his mother and uncle were part of a family bluegrass band that his grandfather ran in the 1970s, and his father was a pianist. Although he sticks to the guitar with KSR, he also plays bass, mandolin, banjo, and trumpet.
He has participated in many bands including Vicki & Crew, Grand Central, Deep Fryed Acoustiblasters, Jeremy Morris & the Harvest Road Band, Bridgewater, and, for 8 years, with Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, where Tyler played bass on Mike’s “On Down the Line” and the Grammy-nominated “Tall Fiddler” album and garnering 2 IBMA awards as part of Instrumental Group of the Year. Currently, Tyler also plays bass with Jeff Parker and Colin Ray.
After being born and raised a Hoosier in Avon, IN, Tyler has settled in Johnson City, TN with his bass-playing wife, Nienke, from the Netherlands. Tyler is excited about the future opportunities ahead and looks forward to seeing everyone out there!
